Jake: I promise this isn’t a Hot Take™ just for the sake of it. Maybe that will prove wrong as some of these songs grow more on me, though.

This album doesn’t have many (or any?) of those moments. Drake hits have always seemed like things that hit you right out of the gate-from the very first listen of “Hotline Bling” or “HYFR” or “Started from the Bottom” or “Headlines” or (INSERT ALL DRAKE HITS HERE), they just felt huge. But when “Hotline Bling” comes on at the end it really highlightsthe lack of giant, mainstream, radio-friendly hits on the rest of the album. “Hype” is great, so is “Views,” and I’m digging “U With Me?” and “Too Good,” among a bunch of others. It might be my Drake silver medalist when all is said and done. That sounds like a negative review, but I don’t mean it that way. Overall Views feels like a more polished version of Take Care, only if Take Care had no massive hits on it.

If you like any good movie ever, then you probably can’t like that piece of shit. Liking one thing doesn’t mean you can’t also like something else! Unless you’re talking about Batman v.

Jack: See, a lot of people in my Timeline who are hating the album seem to be comparing it to TLOP and Lemonade, which is a thing I wish people would stop doing in art. Drake strikes me as the kind of guy who wants to master his lane while Kanye wants to tear down the whole highway and repave it with hydrangeas and butts. I keep seeing people comparing it to TLOP, which is a messy comparison, but maybe useful if we’re talking about how two of the world’s biggest hitmakers see their place in history. But the main question, I think, is where Views ends up ranked in Drake’s discography.Ĭhris: Funny you mention that. (Actually, “Views” is a contender, too.). Jake: Are we all in agreement that “Hype” is the most aux-cordable song on the album? If you do the same thing for long enough, you're going to get really, really good at it. "The only thing I did to end up here is put the work in." There's a line in "Weston Road Flows" that sums this up:

The man's heart is still sitting out there on the sleeve of his Canada Goose, but it felt to me like Drake is finally beginning to relax a little bit about … being Drake.

Justin Fenner (Style Writer): I don't want to get too Bret Easton Ellis about it, but there's definitely something about Views that feels a little more professional than his last six albums. Views is just a collection of the Drake vibes we know and love, and I’m pretty fine with that. Drake is the best there is at being Drake. Jake Woolf (Style Writer): With artists like Kanye or Beyoncé, we’ve come to appreciate their constant reinvention as part of the whole package. Listen now to So Far Gone, and you can hear everything that makes Drake so popular today. Shakeil Greeley (Web Producer): It’s Drake making Drake songs. It’s like he came back from the summer the same basic player but added a jumper. In that way Views feels tight and pristine, but iterative. To me it felt like a fundamental Drake album, with maybe one or two new-ish elements, namely the tropical riddims voice.
